The reality
Corporate ends for every one of us.
Some will hang on longer than others, but it ends. That is not a scare tactic, it is arithmetic. Careers are ending earlier, pensions are gone, and we are living decades longer than the old model was built for.
If you are still in it, you may not see it coming. I did not. They made the decision for me. What I decided was that I was not going back.
Nothing about this is easy. But if everything is hard, choose the hard that benefits you.
Keep your head down, hope it lasts, and figure it out when the decision gets made for you. Most people pick this one by default, not on purpose.
Start now, while you still have runway. Decide what you want, work out how to fund it, and meet the exit on your terms instead of theirs.
What to expect
The unknown is the scary part.
Most people picture one of two things when they imagine life after corporate. Both are available if you choose them. Most people choose neither.
Same kind of work, fewer meetings, better hours. A softer version of what you already know.
Raising money, building a company, working 80 hours to escape working 50.
What actually happens is stranger, and better, than either one. Nobody describes it accurately, which is exactly why it feels so scary.
- The calendar goes blankNobody sets your priorities now. That is freedom, eventually. At first it is disorienting.
- Income gets lumpyNo more Friday deposit. The total can be fine while the rhythm still messes with your head.
- You lose the scoreboardNo reviews, no promotion cycle. You build your own measure of how you are doing.
- You lose the coworkersThe one nobody warns you about. You did not just lose a job, you lost your daily social life.
- Days stop having shapesSunday night dread disappears. So does the structure that made rest feel earned.
- Guilt shows upResting on a Wednesday feels illegal for about a year. Busy has meant worth for three decades.
None of that means you made a mistake. That is the process, and almost everyone hits most of it. The good news is the first stretch is the hardest, you need less money than you think, and nobody is judging you. That feeling is corporate too.
The program
Design it. Fund it. Live it.
Getting out is one step. What nobody prepares you for is everything after. Thirty years of someone else setting your priorities, and then the calendar is blank. There is a sequence to this, and it is not complicated.
Everyone is smart enough to figure this out on their own. I did. It just took me years, I did it alone, and it did not have to be that hard.
Why the community
The hardest part is not the money. It is how alone it feels.
You do not just lose a paycheck when corporate ends. You lose the coworkers, the routine, and the built-in answer to what do you do. Your friends still inside cannot relate. Your spouse is worried about the money. Nobody around you is going through the same thing at the same time.
I did it alone for years. Every mistake was one I had to make myself to learn from. Starting this community changed that, not because I finally had the answers, but because I found people asking the same questions.
The connection is the cake. The program is the icing.
- Your circle of fiveA small group of Gen Xers on the same path, so you are never working through this by yourself.
- Monthly working sessionsThe Builders, for people growing something without letting it take their life back. Gen X Side Hustle, for funding the life you want in the fewest hours.
- Connection and collaborationNot a support group and not a lecture. People who work, ideate, and push each other forward.
- The program and the toolsDesign it, fund it, live it, with the worksheets and structure to actually run it.
The Collective
You don't do this alone.
The community dedicated to helping Gen Xers and Boomers transition out of corporate and into a life they actually want. This is the human part, surrounding yourself with people on the same journey, at the same time.
Your circle of five
A small group going through exactly what you're going through. Your friends still inside can't relate. These people get it.
Monthly working sessions
Not a support group, not a lecture. Real ideas run through the filter, together. People who work, ideate, and push each other forward.
The program
Design your life, fund it, live it. The path that turns talking about it into actually moving. It's the reason this works.
Get there quicker, and not alone.
Who this is for
You paid your dues. You did everything right.
It does not matter where you are standing right now. The work is the same, only the urgency changes.
You have the biggest advantage there is: time and income to prepare. Starting now is not admitting anything. It is the smartest thing you can do.
Yes, sort out the income. That part is real. Just do not rebuild the same cage while you are scared. This is your chance to design something better.
You got out and it still is not quite right. Escaping was one step. Now it is about what you build with the time you finally control.
The podcast
Real people, already living it.
Two kinds of episodes: people who built a life on the other side of corporate, and the simple moves that get you there. I ask every guest if they'd go back. Not one has said yes.
Where to start
Three ways in.
The Collective
Life is too damn short to do this alone. Your circle of five, monthly working sessions, and the full program. Gen Xers making the same transition, together.
